The printed photo must be 33 mm wide by 48 mm high, with the head inside a precise size range. It needs a white or close to white background and glossy finish photo paper. We check the framing, expression and head position, then provide printed copies and a JPEG file for the online form.

The crop, position and paper all have to meet the rules.
A phone photo can look clear but still miss the required measurements. The face, ears, expression and head angle are checked. The printed result must also use the correct glossy paper and have no edge frame.
A narrow head size window
The head must be 15 to 22 mm wide and 28 to 33 mm high. A phone crop does not control both measurements.
Visible ears, closed lips
Your ears must be visible, your lips closed and your head almost straight. Tilt is limited to 20 degrees sideways and 25 degrees up or down.
Glossy paper, no border
The print must be on glossy finish photo paper with no edge frame. A home printer on plain paper fails on the paper alone.

The photo must be recent, in colour and free from stains, scratches or creases. Photos showing scenes of everyday life are not accepted.
A JPEG prepared for the online form.
The online application form accepts a JPEG up to 354 by 472 pixels. The file must be between 40 KB and 120 KB, with a white or close to white background.
The digital photo must have been taken within the past 6 months. A modern phone file is far larger than 120 KB, so it has to be exported correctly.
